Winter
time Safety Tips
Wear your jacket, hat, and gloves whenever you go outside. Wearing layers helps to keep warm. The rule of thumb for young children is to dress them in one more layer of clothing than an adult would wear in the same conditions. It is very important to bundle up when going outside to prevent hypothermia and frostbite.
If you play outside during the winter, be sure to:
Stay with an adult
Stay away from snow plows and snow blowers.
Don’t play in snow banks on the side of the road.
Be careful crossing the street. When it is icy, cars have more difficulty stopping.
Take caution when walking in icy or snowy conditions. Walk slowly, taking small steps, and waddle like a penguin.
Take frequent breaks indoors.
Tips for Staying Healthy
Wash your hands to help prevent spreading germs. Be sure to wash after you cough or sneeze.
Be sure to cough and sneeze into your elbow.
Stay home when you are sick.
Stay hydrated.
Get your flu shot.
Make sure you are getting enough sleep.
